The POP UP FRAME – easily expand and adjust to carry loads up to 80 lbs.

The POP UP 38 originated from hunters’ feedback wanting a bigger pack option on this game-changing frame series. It features a large main compartment which can be accessed via a top loading shroud or by the full-length side zipper. The two-part lid keeps key items within reach while helping to secure and protect spotting scopes and tripods stashed in the outer, compressible pocket (which is also perfect for tucking away a puffy or rain gear.) Dual side pockets hold trekking poles, water bottles or longer tripods and the Autolock buckles and compression straps throughout cinch down firmly, preventing slippage. The unique telescoping frame goes from low profile to maximized load lifting in seconds, and the OVERLOAD® feature is ready for when the game is on the ground.

  • The POP-UP FRAME feature converts this daypack into a load-hauling system. For those shorter, successful day hunts when shouldering out the brutal weight is necessary for extraction. This function allows the frame to easily expand and adjust to carry loads up to 80 lbs. It features expandable pole stays and load shelf.
  • OVERLOAD® feature provides functional expandability via a load sling between the pack and the frame, allowing you to put the bulk of the weight closest to your back for optimal comfort.
  • The patented Futura Yoke easily micro adjusts to the torso length allowing the proper amount of stand-off between the back and frame.
  • New Pop Up frame with telescoping frame utilizing trekking pole technology

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great conceptUsed for some upland hunting and one mule deer day hunt so far. The pack rides great, the frame is solid and it handles a load well. The layout and oversized lid are great, I really like the two pocket lid design. My only complaint is that the bag cannot be snugged to the frame. It flops around loosely unless you have a decent amount (1/3 - 1/2) of the space filled within the bag. The buckles and strap placement don't allow it to be fully secured, there's about 2-3" of bare space between the frame and bag. This also leaves the lid sliding both directions. However, if you always have enough gear to keep it semi-full. It's perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The golden ticket?!I have just received pack in the mail and couldnt be more stoked. I have always been a huge fan and supporter of MR, but this packs build quality is above and beyond. I was able to use the Pop Up 28 last year on several succesful hunts including on my bull elk. The frame handled the bone in quarters with ease. The extra volume and pockets should only make for an even better experience. Others have pointed out that the pack when empty will not sit flush or tight to the frame. By using the top side compression straps to wrap around the entire bag, this issue is corrected in minutes and hold the bag extremely tight to the frame with zero issues. This can also be done with the lower side compressions for even tighter compression.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect size, good features.I have not used this for hunting yet. I’ll be using it this fall for archery elk hunting in Colorado. There is a lot of slack in the pack between the bag and the frame, but this was easily fixed with two carabiners. The pack is nice because when lightly packed it can be sinched down to essentially a small day pack with a beefy waist belt, or packed big for a full on backpacking pack. When looking online the pack seemed like it would be clunky to use based on how the top lid/ main compartment were set up, but that’s not an issue. The top loading/ full access zipper for the main compartment is awesome.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great PackI just bought this pack a couple weeks ago but I’m impressed. I had a eberlestock J107 for the longest time and hated the top pouch how it sagged down and pulled the pack down as well as it being way big on my frame. This pack fits perfect and has tons of room if you need it. I’ve loaded it up as if I’m going on a day hunt and have loaded it heavy if I’m going on a multi day hunt and it fits everything. Very impressed with MR Pop up 38. As a fire fighter I’ve always used MR for my line pack and 14 day bags so I’ve been a big fan from the beginning. Now with the hunting packs and this being the first I’ve owned, I will never buy another pack but MR. Well Done.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Will haul large elkI hauled a 330" elk bull head and cape 3 miles through deadfall... We weighed it at 90 lbs... so the total load on the frame was probably 100 lbs. Pack handled it just fine. It does kinda suck that the bag doesn't cinch close to the frame when it's half full. But that's the only weakness if this pack.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not goodFor starters I have a Mystery Ranch Metcalf and a Pop Up 28 and really like both of those bags. I am not happy with this pack, the 38. As others have noted the bag hangs way off the frame. Yes you can wrap straps this way and that, but the pack doesn't ride well under load. We've packed this thing out for multi-day hunts in the 35-45lb range and one's center of gravity ends up being pretty far back compared to the Metcalf. 40lbs on this is uncomfortable compared to the Metcalf. The aluminum poles also creak in the pack frame which is not good for a stalking bowhunter. We removed the poles, wrapped them in camo tape and that helped, but still not quiet. I called MR for a return and was told it's not possible. As another noted, I feel this pack should've never been released in its current configuration. Get a Metcalf if you're looking for an all around pack that expands, compresses well and has you covered for days hunts to multi-day adventures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good backpack! At one point I was going to buy a bigger backpack from mystery ranch. Then I seen this one, the pop up 38 and this is the one I wanted. It’s a well designed back pack and the size will fool you, but has plenty of room for 3 day to even 5 day hunts, just have to be frugal. Love this backpack and would recommend this backpack to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Form and function.I needed a day pack that would carry a deboned deer and this pack does the job with ease. The pop up design it a game changer.
